Walk away from stress- and towards Inspiration
11:44 AMHello,
I try to walk and or jog every day. Since I am an early riser I typically hit it before 6:00 am. In these 100 degree days it’s the safest and smartest option. Plus I’m up then anyway, might as well do the workout and be done with it for the day. Why do I do this? Well, it’s to keep the 50 pounds off that I lost a few years ago. And I do it for my health, to lower my stress, and to clear my mind. Some of my best book ideas pop into my head while I’m out on a walk.
Working out helps me to "work out" things in my own head so when I come home, do the weights and the damn crunches, then finish with the stretches--by the time I shower and eat breakfast I’m good to go for the day. Some days I hit the local track and jog ¾ of a mile then walk another mile… other days I do a 4 mile walk down to the riverfront along the KATY trail and back home, then some days I do 2 miles of walking up to and around a local park. I like to switch things up. It keeps me from being bored. It also keeps the pressure of my chosen career down to a manageable level.
This past week I’ve been working on the edits for Seasons of Witchery. (Which will be released in May or June of 2012) The plan is for it to be the same square shape as the other Witchery books in the series. I also found out it will be illustrated too. So I’m excited about that. It may also have photos from my gardens in it. We’ll have to wait and see.
My other super secret project is still in the “coming along” stage…. I hope to be able to talk about that and share that news before the end of the year. I am still working on that new online class for Protection Magick and Psychic Self-defense…. Oh and I am indeed working on my fiction as well- and that has been fun.
I’ve been doing annual articles for the Llewellyn Witches Calendar, Witches Datebook, Magical Almanac, and the Sabbat Almanac for 2013. In the 2012 editions I contributed to the Calendar, Datebook, Spell-a-Day, Magical, and Sabbats Annuals.
So yeah, three book projects, annual articles and creating a new online class. There’s a lot going on up in my old cranium. Sometimes walking away from it all is the best thing I can do. (Plus it gets me out of the house!)
Today I went up to a local park for my walk, I dodged some of the sprinklers and walked straight through others. I enjoyed the sunken gardens and bounced home in a determined mood ready to tackle all my projects. After sitting at my desk for five hours I’m ready to take a break and eat lunch… Then I’ll dive back in. What will I be working on this afternoon? I don’t know yet. I’ll have to see what pulls at me the most.
Stay cool everybody and if you are feeling unhappy or stressed- lace up your tennis shoes and go take a walk.
It really does work.
Just like magick!
Blessed be, Ellen

Okay once this midwestern heat wave cools to a bearable 90 degrees... I will start walking again! Thanks Ellen!
ReplyDeleteI walk everyday too and with this heat I have been unable to and I feel guilty since I cant. Today with the heat index it is 116 just awful and all I want to do is go for a nice long walk and burn thru some of the calories. I guess Mother Nature wins this one, which does make me think what the heck am I going to do this winter ? Blessings
