What I've been up to lately.....

Hello, Witches, and magickally minded folks!  I have not been blogging a lot lately. (Sorry, my bad,) But I am in the final push to finish up my 13th book for Llewellyn and also working on a 14th project at the same time. If that wasn’t enough to keep me hopping, I have also been touring this spring and working on fiction. Yeah fiction. Hunting for an agent now. Keep your fingers crossed. I do have a couple of agents interested- so we'll see what happens.

Finally the 13th non-fiction book is finished all except for the polishing and the editing. Which I do last. I did this book a little differently this time and wrote it over the course of a year as opposed to my typical "start and finish and ship out in 6 months", routine.
Ellen at the St. Louis Pagan Picnic 2010
In a couple of weeks I will be at The St. Louis Pagan Picnic. This free two day event has been around for over 20 years and I have been attending and giving lectures there for several years now. This year I will only be in attendance on Saturday, June 11th. I will have copies of all of my books for sale and will be happy to sign them. I am giving a free lecture on “Protection Magick” at noon on Saturday also. Here is a picture of me at the Picnic from last year. Thats my husband- off to the side that you can see sitting in a lawn chair.

My coven sister and fellow witchy writer Ember Grant will be there selling her first book this year too, as well as cards featuring her amazing nature photography. We plan to carpool out to the picnic together. Afterwards I insist we go out to dinner at a local Mexican restaurant and order big honking Margaritas! Its become a tradition.

This year for fun I decided to make up little spell kits to sell at the picnic. Each kit includes a crystal, a talisman to wear, a sachet bag full of magickal herbs from my gardens, a candle and of course a spell. No I will not be selling these on my website, nor will I drag them across country when I tour. (People have already asked.) These little spell kits will just be for fun and only for sale at the Picnic. I’m going to keep them under ten bucks.

So, I was up at dawn got in a jog and a nice long walk, came home and cleaned house. My kids are all coming over today and we are going to BBQ. Well okay the Hubs mans the BBQ grill that's his domain.... must never touch or approach the grill. He gets territorial if you do. So while he is out there being all manly- grilling the meat over the gas flames- I will take care of dessert (angel food cake and fresh berries) and all the side dishes. What does it say about me that I mention dessert first? Hmmmm…..

In a couple of weeks I will first announce the working title and topic of the 13th magickal book here on this blog. I won’t do that until its shipped out and safely in my editor’s hot little hands. But I would imagine around mid-June. Then that announcement should be happening.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and blessed be,

Psychic Abilities- Can you lose them?

Sales team at Llewellyn and Ellen

Happy Full Moon! I am home from my trip to Minneapolis and I had a great visit with the folks up at Llewellyn, here is a picture of me and the ladies in sales- who are a riot! They are so much fun, as you can see from how hard we are laughing in the picture.

For a change I  actually had a day to explore Minneapolis/ St. Paul. Thanks to Michelle and Elysia who drove me around and took me to dinner. I also want to thank Alicia, Barbara, Becky, and her boys for showing me such a wonderful time around town. And thanks Michelle and Barbara for helping me find the Vikings store at the Mall. The Hubs LOVES his Vikings football t-shirts!

Ellen & Elysia at Arboretum
So, I hit the Mall of America, the Arboretum and the Zoo. Here I am on the right- by the hydrangeas at the arboretum with my acquisitions editor, Elysia.
The Zoo I explored with Elysia, my editor Becky and her three boys. We had a great time. The kids were fun and I gave one of the twins a piggy back ride for a while.

On Saturday, I had a wonderful event at the “Eye of Horus” bookstore. What a gorgeous store. Slick professional, mystical and modern all at the same time. I want to go back there next year for sure for another author event.  Now I am home again and finishing up book #13. My goal is to have it done within the next month. After, it’s in the hands of my editor- then I will announce the working title.

I received an interesting letter this week from a young person who was convinced that they had somehow “lost” their psychic abilities. For once it was a polite letter and not all in “Caps” which always feels to me like someone is screaming at you- via email.

I explained to this young person that psychic abilities tend to come roaring out when we hit puberty. Then they run amuck for a few years… finally when we hit around 16 to 17 years of age they become really intense. Why? Well because psychic abilities are often triggered by intense emotions and hormones. There is nothing more intense and hormonal for a young person finishing up high school and preparing for college.

Same school of thought applies to a person of any age experiencing a major change in their life. Whether its becoming a parent for the first time, getting married, pregnancy, going back to school, a new job, a bad break up, or when you finally have an empty nest, menopause, or even moving to a new home. All of these events are emotional ones. So expect these emotional changes to go along with the psychic changes and the physical change in your routine. Which means…. Your psychic abilities such as intuition, empathy, clairvoyance and clairaudience may take a break and allow you to reacclimatize to your new way of life.

Also if you stress out about your psychic abilities while you work through a life-change your abilities may “take a vacation” for a while. So my advice? RELAX. Let yourself get used to your new life and in time your abilities will present themselves again.

Those abilities are not lost. They are only allowing you to take a break and get accustom to your new phase of your life- whatever it may be. Take a stroll out under that full moon tonight and have a talk with the Goddess. Listen carefully she will comfort you and remind you that life is change.

For more information about psychic abilities and how to incorporate them into your life and Craft, read my book “Natural Witchery: Intuitive, Personal & Practical Magick”.
The book has exercises, and quizzes to help you identify your gifts and to fine tune them to compliment your own brand of magick!
Blessed be and happy Full Moon!

Ellen's Iris Garden May 2011

My Iris garden is in it’s glory this week and it got me to thinking about the magick of flowers. This flower was named after the Greek Goddess of the rainbow, Iris.  As a messenger Goddess who had dominion over the sky and sea, she used her rainbow to travel back and forth from Olympus to earth.

This enchanting flower does comes in all the colors of the rainbow. In my gardens at home I have purple, pale violet, white, blue and purple, red, yellow, white & purple mixture, and black varieties of iris.  And I’m always on the lookout for new colors and varieties. In the language of flowers, the iris speaks of; eloquence, a promise, compliments and of course a message.

I have been feeling a link to the goddess Iris lately, probably because a project I am currently working on takes a lot of communication. Keeping in constant contact while working on a project with someone was surprising to me (Sort of like finding this kick-ass red iris, called Spartan.) As I never thought I would find myself in this situation. Its frustrating, and exciting all at the same time.

"Spartan" Iris
However, it is making me rise to the challenge- whether I like it or not. Maybe that's my message... "Hang in there and keep fighting!" Or maybe I need to start thinking along the lines of the 300 movie, "Madness? This IS Sparta!" And take no prisoners.

Tomorrow I leave for Minneapolis. I will have meetings up at the Llewellyn headquarters on Friday, and will be giving a talk, plus I will get to see the new facilities, and hopefully finally get to meet Carl Weschke. Then on Saturday I have an author event at “The Eye of Horus” in Minneapolis. I will be signing copies of my newest book, Practical Protection Magick, and teaching a class on the topic as well.

Messages, appears to be my theme for the month. I am either waiting for them, or giving them to others. Today I have some flowers to plant, lecture notes to polish up and clothes to pack for the trip. Its going to be busy.

Enjoy the photos of my iris garden and Blessed be, Ellen

Retiring Two of my Online Classes

I hope everyone had a bewitching Beltane! I decided this week to retire two of my online classes. These two classes are, “The Autumn Sabbats” and “The Spring Sabbats”. Why you may wonder? Well, I have my reasons.

The two sabbats classes are still available for ordering until 10:00pm CST Friday May 6th. The price of these two sabbat classes are still $30.00 each.
Also there is STILL a free bonus spell included with each of the Sabbats classes.
A "Walpurgis Night" spell for the Spring Sabbats class.
For the Autumn Sabbats class the bonus spell is "A Full Blood Moon in October Spell".

After Friday the 6th of May… those two classes will be retired permanently. I will still have five other online classes for you.  These classes are:

1.)The Elements of Witchcraft Part I --$40.00

2.)Advanced Natural Magick Part II  --$40.00

3.)Natural Magick for Hearth & Home-- $40.00

4.)Full Moon Mini-Class-- $22.00

5.)Herb Magick Class $30.00

If you want to take a look at the online classes I offer, or would like to order a sabbat class before I retire them- hop over to my website and check it out. This link will take you directly to the “Online Classes” page.

Now I’m off to go take a nice long walk. I hope everyone is enjoying the spring… even if you, like we here in Missouri, are getting LOTS of rain.
Here is a comment from a recent online student of mine about one of the classes...

"I recently bought the Elements of Witchcraft class and loved it!  I took a longer time with it though. I spent a week with each element because I really wanted to dig in and feel a connection to each one. I gained so much from that class! I learned so much and was able to really connect with nature. One of the best things I got out of class was the confidence to write my own spells, and that has been so powerful for me. I notice that my own written spells work better for me than anything, and I don't think I would have tried to do that for quite a while had it not been an assignment in class."- Amanda J.
Blessed  be,
